Cuttack: The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) on Monday maintained that there is no inconsistency in evaluation of marks in the annual Matric examination this year.

Reacting to the state-wide uproar by the students over alleged faulty evaluation, BSE president Ramashis Hazra said the results have been announced as per the moderation policy under the alternative evaluation method.

“The marks have been awarded to students on the basis of their performance in the two examinations and their overall performance in the last four years – 2017 to 2020. On the basis of the marks of students sent by their respective schools, the assessment has been made. There is no deduction of marks and the assessment has been done with the adoption of a mathematical system,” Hazra told mediapersons.

The Board president further said as some schools had awarded excess marks to the students, the Board has awarded the marks to these students after a thorough analysis.

Asked whether the Board will re-evaluate the papers of the students who have been awarded less marks, he said there is no question of re-evaluation. “The students who are not satisfied with the marks are allowed to appear in the offline examination,” Hazra pointed out.

Controller of Examination, BSE Nihar Ranjan Mohanty said performance of schools this year compared to the last year’s Matric examinations is much better.

Terming the allegation of students as absurd and baseless, he said as the Board has announced the results, it is now getting ready to conduct the offline examination of the students who are not satisfied with the marks awarded to them.

“The Board will issue a notification for offline examination on July 5 and the students willing to appear in the offline examination can fill  up the form,” Mohanty added.
