No Respite From Chill, Dense Fog Alert By IMD For 3 Odisha Districts For 2 Days



Bhubaneswar: While cold conditions continued to grip most parts of Odisha, dense fog is likely to engulf three districts in the state for next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

As winter chill swept across the districts, the minimum temperature dropped below 10 degrees Celsius in at least eleven places in the state in last 24 hours. As per the IMD, there will be no large change in the minimum (night) temperature for the next 6-7 days in the state.

While G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district turned out to be the coldest place in the state recording 4.6 degrees Celsius, the mercury stood at 5.8 degree at Publbani, also in Kandhamal.

The hill station of Daringbadi in the same district recorded a minimum temperature of 6 degrees Celsius.

Semiliguda in Koraput district recorded 5.1 degrees Celsius, while the mercury stood at 7.6 degree at Chipilima, 8.9 degree in Jharsuguda and 9 degrees Celsius in Angul.

State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 14 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature in Cuttack stood at 13.6 degrees Celsius.

Dense fog was experienced in Rourkela, while Jharsuguda, Phulbani and Bhawanipatna witnessed moderate fog on Saturday morning.

As per IMD prediction, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Kandhamal districts are likely to be affected by dense fog on Sunday. These districts have been issued a yellow warning.

“Dense fog is very likely to occur during early hours/morning hours at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Kandhamal”, said the IMD forecast for December 21.

The weather agency issued same alert for these three districts for December 22. It advised people of these districts to exercise caution while travelling during early hours.
