No Respite From Heat In Odisha Till Tomorrow; IMD Sounds Warning For 11 Districts

Bhubaneswar: Already reeling under gruelling heat, Odisha is unlikely to receive any immediate respite, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said on Saturday that heat wave conditions are likely to continue to prevail at some pockets of the state.

Heat wave conditions are expected to persist in different parts of districts like Cuttack, Bhadrak, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Boudh, Malkanagiri, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal and Balangir during next 24 hours.

Warm night conditions are also likely to continue to prevail in the districts namely Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh.
Similarly, hot and humid conditions are very likely to continue to prevail in the districts of Gajapati, Balasore, Khurda and Puri.

Notably, Odisha has turned a frying pan as temperature zoomed to 42 degree Celsius in 10 places with capital city Bhubaneswar turning the hottest in the state on Friday.

Bhubaneswar was the sixth hottest place in Asia on Friday recording maximum (day) temperature of 43.5 degree Celsius. Bhubaneswar ranks sixth in the list of 10 hottest cities in Asia. A temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius was recorded on Friday.

The capital city was followed by Paralakhemundi with 42.6 degree, Talcher 42.4, Malkangiri and Boudh 42.2, Angul 42.1 and Jharsuguda, Balangir, Titlagarh and Nayagarh with 42 degree Celsius on Friday.

The IMD said due to prevailing Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, maximum temperature is likely to be more than 40°C at many places of the state and is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5° C in some districts.

In view of the rising heat wave, the state government has directed the authorities concerned to take precautionary measures and open adequate water bodies at prominent places in the city.

However, people may get some respite from the blistering heat wave from April 8 as thunderstorm with lightning and moderate rainfall is likely to occur in several parts of the state.
