Bhubaneswar: Heatwave continued to sweep Odisha as temperature soared to 43 degree Celsius or more in as many as 9 places on Sunday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, 3o places in the state reeled under the temperature of 40 degree Celsius on the day.
Baripada, the district headquarters of Mayurbhanj, was the hottest in the state as it recorded maximum (day) temperature of 44.6 degree Celsius. It was followed by Nuapada with 44 degree.
The other places that recorded maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius or more included Talcher with 43.8, Jharsuguda and Keonjhar 43.6, Angul 43.3 and Balangir 43.2 degree. Sundargarh and Boudh recorded 43 degree Celsius.
The IMD has forecast that day temperature is very likely to be 40°C or above at many places in interior Odisha and above normal by 3 to 5°C in some districts during next 2 days due to prevailing mainly Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation.
The Met office has also issued orange warning and said heat wave to severe heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh and Nuapada.
