No Respite From Heatwave In Western Odisha; 12 Places Record 40 Degree Celsius Or More

Bhubaneswar: Even as coastal areas of Odisha got relief from heatwave on the impact of cyclonic storm in Bay of Bengal, the western belt reeled under scorching heat with 12 places recording 40 degree Celsius or more on Sunday.

According to evening bulletin of India Meteorological Department (IMD), 4 places in western Odisha registered maximum temperature of 42 degree or more.

Balangir remained the hottest place in the state as it recorded an increase in temperature compared to previous day. The IMD reported that the town recorded 42.3 degree Celsius on Sunday against 41.8 degree on Saturday.

Balangir was followed by Sonepur at 42.2 degree and Boudh and Sundargarh 42 degree, all in western Odisha.

The other places that recorded 40 degree Celsius or more are Jharsuguda (41.5), Sambalpur (40.8), Hirakud (40.6), Bhawanipatna (41), Titlagarh (41.5), Parlakhemundi (40), Deogarh (40.5), Nuapada (41.4).

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 37 degree Celsius while Puri had the lowest temperature at 32.8 degree.

The IMD has forecast that light rain/thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts in next 24 hours while the weather will remain dry in rest of the places.
