Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda recorded the highest maximum temperature of 40.8 degree Celsius by 11.30 am, the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre here tweeted on Wednesday.
The mercury soared past 37 degree Celsius at six other places before noon – Keonjhar (39.2), Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur (39), Balasore and Hirakud (37.8) and Chandbali (37.4).
Bhubaneswar had recorded 32 degree Celsius at 8.30 am.
While Odisha is likely to experience hot and humid weather for another 2 days, the regional Met office has issued heatwave warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur and Boudh districts in the next 24 hours.
It has also predicted thunderstorm and lightning at some places in the state between Thursday and Saturday under influence of an approaching western disturbance.
At least 29 stations recorded over 40 degree Celsius on Tuesday with Jharsuguda & Baripada (44.2) along with Hamirpur in east Uttar Pradesh being the hottest place in the country. Baripada was six degree hotter than normal while Jharsuguda recorded 3.8 degree more than the average day temperature.
