No Respite Yet From Scorching Heat In Odisha; Check Forecast For Next 5 Days

Bhubaneswar: The sweltering heat will continue to scorch Odisha with the India Meteorological Department predicting no large change in the daytime temperature during the next four to five days.

While the MeT office has forecast heavy rainfall in Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim due to cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal in mid-tropospheric levels and strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India at lower tropospheric levels, Odisha is likely to experience isolated/scattered rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds during the next 5 days.

The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has issued yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada till 8,30 am on Friday.

While some places will experience light to moderate showers during the next two days, rainfall activity will increase from May 5, when an alert for thunderstorm and lightning has been issued again.

MAY 5

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Rayagada, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kalahandi.

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is also likely at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Rayagada, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and at one or two places in the remaining districts of Odisha.

MAY 6

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur.

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is also likely at a few places in Sambalpur, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj and at one or two places in rest districts of the state.

Notably, the mercury had soared to 43 degree Celsius at 5 places in Odisha on Wednesday with Sonepur recording the highest 44.4 degree Celsius followed by Sambalpur (43.6), Balangir (43.4), Jharsuguda (43) and Boudh (43). The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 35.9 degree Celsius and 35.8 degree Celsius respectively.

Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some parts of northwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of northeast and eastcentral Bay of Bengal and most parts of Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland.
