Cuttack: While removing the restrictions on the height of Durga idols, the Orissa High Court (HC) on Wednesday asked the Cuttack puja committees to inform the city DCP about their desired size by 7 pm.
After verification, the DCP will give permission for the same, the court added.
Different puja committees had sought judicial intervention to relax the restrictions imposed by the Odisha government on Durga Puja celebrations in the city.
“The petitioners told the Bench that construction of 7 feet idol had begun from August 26 and chalk paste would be applied on the idols from tomorrow,” said senior advocate Ashok Mohapatra.
Following which, the Bench directed the members of the puja Committees to inform the city DCP about their idol size by 7 pm and take permission for the same, he added.
Notably, the state government had barred public darshan of the idols during Durga Puja and restricted the height of idols to less than 4 feet.
