Bhubaneswar: Rural Development Minister Susanta Singh on Tuesday informed the Assembly that there is no road connectivity to 4,264 villages in Odisha.
The minister informed that as per the 2001 Census data, there are 50,178 villages in Odisha of which 29,537 villages have road connectivity.
The minister said this in reply to questions by BJD members Manohar Randhari and Ananta Das, BJP MLA Kusum Tete and deputy leader of the Opposition Bishnu Sethi.
Singh said that the state government had decided to construct roads to 18,477 villages under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) of which financial sanctions were made for 17,089 villages. Out of these 17,089 villages, the construction of roads for 16,347 villages has been completed and work is underway at 732 villages.
Apart from this, the road construction work is going on in more than 250 villages in 18 IAP (Integrated Action Plan) districts, more than 500 villages in the non-IAP districts and over 100 villages in the left-wing extremism (LWE) districts of the state, the minister added.
