Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the commencement of the Winter Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on December 1, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro today convened an all-party meeting on November 29.
Speaking to a local news channel here, Patro said the meeting has been called to apprise the parties about the decisions taken at the Assembly Speakers’ conference in Shimla this month to ensure smooth functioning of House sessions.
One of the decisions taken in Shimla was that when the Speaker is speaking or during Question Hour, members should not create any ruckus or disturbance. Members of the Odisha Assembly will be apprised about it during the meeting on November 29, Patro said.
Besides, Patro said it was decided at the Shimla conference that when members speak in the House, they should focus on development and people’s welfare and their conduct should serve as an example for the next generation. All these will be discussed at the meeting, Patro said.
The Winter Session will be held amid strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols. All MLAs will undergo COVID test before the beginning of the session. The date of test will be finalised during a meeting with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials on November 25.
The Winter Session will conclude on December 31. The Opposition BJP and Congress plan to corner the BJD-led Naveen Patnaik government in the Mamita Meher murder case.
