No Sale Of Marine Fish In Bhubaneswar For 10 Days

Bhubaneswar: With tests conforming presence of cancer-causing chemical formalin in marine fish, Jai Jawan Matsya Byabasai Sangh has decided to stop sale of those imported from Andhra Pradesh for 10 days.
“Keeping the concern and safety of the city denizens in view, it has been decided that there will be no sale of any marine fish in Bhubaneswar for the next 10 days,” Jambeswar Mallick, a member of the Sangh, told mediapersons here.
He said the Sangh will take a decision on its future course of action at the working committee meeting after 10 days.
Meanwhile, in a letter to all District Public Health Officers and Municipal Corporations, Commissioner of Food Safety Archana Patnaik has asked them to collect samples of fish and send them to the National Food Testing Laboratory.
Citing reports in the print and electronic media, she has asked the aforesaid officials to direct the food safety officers concerned to collect random samples.
Notably, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Secretary Vishal Gagan on July 13 had confirmed presence of formalin in Pamphlet fish samples collected from the Unit-4 fish market in Bhubaneswar.
