No Tsunami Alert For Odisha, Clarifies SRC; Heavy Rain To Continue For 2 Days

Bhubaneswar: Amid reports about Tsunami threat to Odisha, the office of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) clarified that it has issued no such alert.

“It is for all concerned that we have not issued any Tsunami alert,” the SRC said, adding that news being telecast on a local channel is without any fact.

According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rain is likely in Odisha on August 1-2. Light to moderate rainfall may continue in parts of the state till August 6.

Yellow warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) has been issued for one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur on August 1 while heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) may also occur at some places of Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Nayagarh, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Kalahandi districts.

Earlier in the day, the weather agency had warned of one or two spells of intense rain in some parts of Cuttack city. “It can cause waterlogging in low-lying area, occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption. People are advised to keep a watch on the weather and act accordingly,” it added.
