Mumbai: After Kangana Ranaut, actor-producer Divya Khosla has taken a jibe at Alia Bhatt for the poor opening of her latest outing ‘Jigra’.
While Kangana took an indirect dig at Alia by sharing a cryptic post on her Insta handle, Divya directly slammed the ‘Jigra’ actress and claimed that she has bought all the movie tickets herself as the theatres are running empty.
Sharing a photo of an empty theatre, Divya wrote, “Went to Citi Mall PVR for Jigra show. Theatre was totally empty … all theaters going empty every where. #Aliabhatt me sach mein Bahut #Jigra hai.. khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye. Wonder why paid media is silent. #weshdnotfooltheaudience #truthoverlies #HappyDussehra Х (sic).”
Earlier, addressing the controversy around the similarity between her film ‘Savi’ and Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra’, Divya stated that she has explored the genre first.
“Yes, I too have been getting this question a lot from the media, the industry and the trade that ‘Savi’ and ‘Jigra’ are seeming very similar, the plot and everything. Well, I would just like to say that with the love of the audience and the grace of God that ‘Savi’ has proved its worth totally on its own merits. We had a very good run in theatres and OTT too and we topped the charts in various countries. So, I’m just thankful for all the love. And yes, our film was based on jailbreak– how a simple housewife attempts a jailbreak to get her husband out of the prison. And even though ‘Jigra’ may be similar to it I feel every film has its own journey to it and sometimes two production houses can make a film on a similar plot,” said Divya, as quoted by IANS.
Helmed by Abhinay Deo, Divya’s ‘Savi’ revolves around a housewife, who wants to free her husband from a foreign prison. Besides Divya, the film stars Harshvardhan Rane and Anil Kapoor in lead roles.
In ‘Jigra’, Alia Bhatt is trying to free her brother, played by Vedang Raina, from a foreign prison.
According to reports, Alia’s ‘Jigra’ has managed to mint only around Rs 4.25 Crores at the domestic box office on its opening day.
Mocking at the poor-box office collections, Kangana wrote on her insta handle, “When you destroy women-centric films and make sure that they don’t work, they don’t work, even when you make them. Read that again. Thanks.”
