New Delhi: An engineer collapsed on the pitch and died of a heart attack while playing cricket in Noida on Sunday. Vikas Negi, the engineer, ran towards the other side of the pitch to take a run but collapsed midway. The wicket-keeper ran towards him while other players too rushed to help. He was then immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
The post-mortem report stated heart attack as the cause of death.
According to a preliminary report, Vikas had COVID earlier but was healthy. He would often play cricket in Noida and Delhi to keep himself fit.
The prevalence of heart attacks has risen in the past five years in India and is attributed to a fast-paced lifestyle and bad eating habits.
