New Delhi: ‘Noise of Silence’, Bollywood’s first movie on the controversial National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise, is likely to be released on OTT platforms.
‘Inspired by true events’, as the film’s poster reveals, was shot entirely in Tripura, The Indian Express reported.
The story revolves around a couple who finds themselves excluded from the NRC list and a Rohingya Muslim girl who visits India in search of her mother.
Shooting was completed in 28 days in February this year and was filmed at 20 locations in Tripura, including Chhabimura, Unakoti, Durgabari Tea Estate and parts of Agartala.
Director Saif Baidya said that the film aims to portray the plight of lakhs of people in Assam who were excluded from the NRC list. He revealed that he got the idea of the film after his former assistant director, whose father serves in the Army, was left out of the NRC.
“Aditya had to go home to Assam twice every month for court hearings. He and his mother had found themselves out of the NRC draft list, though his father is a serving Indian Army official. He had to travel twice a month to Assam since 2015. I thought the story needed to be told,” the director informed.
“Through this movie, I wanted to inform the people of our country about NRC and CAA. I am hopeful that the movie will reach the people,” Baidya said.
“We could not release the movie in theatres due to the imposition of COVID-19 lockdown. The one-hour and 50-minute movie is expected to be released within one and a half months on OTT platforms like Zee 5, VOOT, Amazon Prime, Netflix etc,” Baidya informed.
