Bhubaneswar: The nomination of Droupadi Murmu as NDA’s President candidate was the highest honour for Odisha, said state BJP on Wednesday.
For the first time in history of Independent India, a tribal woman has been nominated for Presidential election, said Odisha president of BJP Samir Mohanty at a presser in Bhubaneswar. “It is a matter of added pleasure for 4.5 crore people of Odisha that Droupadi Murmu belongs to the state,” he added.
Stating that the unanimous decision of nomination of Murmu reflected the true nature of ‘Purvoday’ (look east) policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mohanty said it is a historic moment that will be remembered for all time to come.
“The BJP government at the Centre has been constantly working on the principle of Antoday. It has been striving for development of eastern India, particularly Odisha, which has remained at the bottom line of the nation’s progress,” said Mohanty.
Appreciating the love and affection of the Prime Minister to Odisha, the BJP leader thanked him for nominating Murmu to the highest constitutional post of the country.
