Bhubaneswar: The nominations of 1o candidates, including those of political parties and Independents, for byelection to Odisha’s Jharsuguda Assembly constituency were declared valid on Saturday.
According to official sources, total 22 sets of nominations were submitted by 14 candidates for the byelection to the seat in western Odisha. During scrutiny on the day, the nominations of 4 candidates were rejected on various grounds.
The candidates of three parties, whose nominations were found valid, included Dipali Das of ruling BJD, Tankadhar Tripathy of BJP and Tarun Pandey of Congress.
Similarly, the papers of Rohidas, Manish Sharma, Mahendra Patnaik, Bijay Jalan, Gyanendra Behera, Bhubaneswar Gardia and Mahendra Luha, who would contest as Independents or nominees of other parties, have been found to be valid.
While the last date of withdrawal of nominations is April 24, the byelection will be held on May 10, as per the notification of the Election Commission of India.
