Non-Govt College Teachers Threaten Indefinite Stir For Govt Aid In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Teachers of non-government aided and unaided colleges have threatened to launch an indefinite strike in Bhubaneswar from Tuesday to press their demand for government aid.

Speaking to media persons in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, the office-bearers of the Non-Government Aided and Unaided College Teaching and Non-Teaching (+2 & +3) Employees’ Association said following their appointed by the management committees of the colleges in 2008, they have been working till now.

Despite several letters and meetings with the Higher Education Minister and officers of the department, the government has not taken the step to provide aid to them, they claimed.

“The Higher Education Minister held meeting with us to discuss our demand in 2018 and 2020. He assured of looking into our demand. The higher education directorate had written a letter to our colleges to furnish the total number of teachers and non-teachers serving in the institutions in 2023. But the government is yet to take any step,” they said.

The department had again sought a report about our status from the directorate and regional directors on June 24 this year. But it withdrew the letter a few days later on the ground that the matter was under consideration of the inter-ministerial committee, the association members said.

In protest against the government’s delay-dallying approach to consider the demand, the teachers said they would take out a massive rally in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday and sit on dharna till their demands are not fulfilled.
