Students of private schools in Pune are under a lot of mental stress. Those who could not pay the full tuition fees for previous academic year are getting transfer certificates (TCs) by post from their respective schools.
According to a Hindustan Times report, these students are not getting admission for the new academic year.
Imran Khan, a parent who has two children enrolled in a city-based private school said that the TC of both the students was sent by post.
“My elder son has been promoted to Class 10… but we received TCs for both my children. I had given post-dated cheques to the school. However, both have been asked to leave,” Imran Khan, a parent, was quoted as saying.
He is a member of the parents’ association of Pune, but there’s nothing much that he can do.
Twenty students have lost admission for non-payment of fees.
“The students have lost admission solely because the parents were not able to pay full fees. Due to the ongoing pandemic, many parents are going through financial difficulties; some of them paid partial fees. These students are an easy target for schools. Unfortunately, even authorities are mute spectators in this. Despite several complaints, the education department is moving at snail’s pace to resolve the matter,” HT quoted parents’ association president Jayshree Deshpande as saying.
She added that students are in a lot of stress due to this situation.
Federation of School Association of Maharashtra president Rajendra Singh supported the schools have taken the right decision.
“The schools are suffering losses… paying fees is important for smooth functioning of schools. As the academic year has ended, parents are free to find an affordable school for their wards,” Singh said.
