Bhubaneswar: Temperature in most parts of coastal districts of Odisha, which had witnessed a sharp rise on Wednesday, came down appreciably due to Nor’wester (kalabaisakhi) late in the night.
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 18.5 mm and 34.4 mm of rainfall respectively, while Paradip (11 mm) and Puri (19.4 mm) also experienced moderate rain.
Apart from the coastal Odisha, the Nor’wester also lashed some parts of the western and northern Odisha, including Angul (16 mm), Keonjhar (42.4 mm), Hirakud (15.6 mm), Talcher (28 mm) and Sonepur (13.2 mm).
Talking to the media, duty officer at the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Laxmikant Giri said though the temperature in the coastal belt has come down due to the Nor’wester, the heat wave condition will continue to prevail in the western and interior districts for the next 48 hours.
The Centre in its morning bulletin on Thursday issued thunderstorm and lightning warning for 20 districts of Odisha.
“Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by light rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsingpur, Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack, Balangir, Nuapada, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Puri and Nayagarh between 8 am and 11 am,” the bulletin said.
