Sonepur: A Nor’wester that swept across Sonepur district on Monday caused huge damage to paddy and other standing crops.
Though Nor’wester accompanied by hailstorm and gusty wind came as a much-needed relief from the scorching heat, it proved to be a burden for the farming community of Bankighiridi and Babupali panchayats under Binika block of the district as acres and acres of crops were damaged in the untimely shower and hailstorm.
Following the massive damage, farmers have requested the district administration for compensation.
On April 25, tomato, brinjal and sunflower crops were badly damaged in Nor’wester-triggered hailstone shower at Janardhanpur panchayat under Sadar block in Keonjhar district.
The farmers of the locality had also sought assistance from the state government.
