Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department on Thursday said the nor’wester effect would prevail in some parts of coastal and interior Odisha for the next 12 hours.
Duty officer at the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Jivan Baske said the change in weather conditions in Odisha is because of formation of a trough line stretching from Rajasthan to Chhattisgarh.
“Going by the modular study, the general forecast is light to moderate rainfall in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Puri in the coastal pockets as well as in the interior districts of Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Koraput today,” Baske said. “However, thunderstorm with gusty wind and lightning are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Rayagada and Gajapati and hailstorm is likely at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal and Cuttack during the period.”
Stating that there is no Met warning for Friday, Baske said light rain or thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha and some parts of Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts in the interior north and south Odisha. Barring these districts, dry weather would prevail over the remaining districts of the state in the subsequent two days with a rise in day and night temperatures by 1-2 degree Celsius, he said.
