Malkangiri: Two fishermen went missing while fishing in a reservoir in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Thursday.
As per reports, the fishermen, Govind Sardar of MV-111 and Tulasi Madhi of Bhimaragi village had gone for fishing in a country boat in Satiguda reservoir in the district in the afternoon.
At the time, heavy gusty wind along with lightning hit the area. The two fishermen could not control the boat which started swinging fiercely in the wind and ultimately capsized. They had gone to deep water of the reservoir and went missing since then, the sources said.
In another nor’wester related incident in the district, 2 labourers were critically injured as a portion of the under-construction boundary wall of an airstrip collapsed. Several parts of the district witnessed serious damage on the impact of thunderstorm in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed Koraput ODRAF unit to rush to Malkangiri and launch a search operation to rescue the missing fishermen. He has also told TPSODL to ensure quick restoration of power supply in the affected areas and sought a report from the district collector on the damages by Friday.
