Bhubaneswar: People in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack received the much-awaited respite from the scorching heatwave on Monday after nor-wester rain lashed several parts of Odisha on Sunday night.
The nor-wester rain accompanied by gusty surface wind, thunderstorms and lightning lashed the twin cities and several other areas as per the forecast made by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
As a result, temperature came down considerably in state capital Bhubaneswar, Cuttack city and some other places in the state.
While trees were uprooted in some places of the capital city, severe waterlogging was also experienced at certain locations following the nor-wester rain.
Bhubaneswar had recorded a maximum temperature of 38.3 degree Celsius on Sunday, while the mercury stood at 36 degree Celsius in Cuttack.
As per sources, lightning strikes reportedly killed at least five people and 32 cows in separate incidents at different places of the state.
