Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued heatwave warning for 14 districts of Odisha for two days.
The districts that are likely to feel the impact of extreme heat are Cuttack, Khurda, Keonjhar, Boudh, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Angul, Balangir, Kandhamal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, and Jharsuguda.
Warm nights are likely to prevail at one or places in Sundargarh, Balangir, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Boudh, and Dhenkanal on April 5-6. Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, and Deogarh on April 6 with light to moderate rain in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, and Deogarh districts.
On April 7, yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall has been issued for one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, and Boudh districts. Thunderstorm with lightning and hail may also occur at one or two places in Balangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Keonjhar. Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Boudh, and Sonepur.
There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain/thundershower at many places in North Odisha, South Coastal Odisha and at a few places in South Interior Odisha.
On April 8, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati . There is also a warning of thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall for one or two places in Jajpur, and Cuttack districts.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at one or two places in North Coastal Odisha, Puri, and Khurda on April 9.
According to the weather agency, the day temperature is likely to rise by 2-3°C at a few places during the next 2 days and the fall by 2-4°C in subsequent 3 days. The maximum and minimum temperature in Bhubaneswar is likely to hover around 44°C and 27°C respectively during the next 24 hours.
