Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience thundershower and lightning accompanied by gusty wind till May 12 due to moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.
After a drop of 5-6°C, the day temperature, however, will remain unchanged during this period.
The prediction has come as a respite for voters of Odisha, where the first round of elections will be held in four Lok Sabha seats – Nabarangpur, Berhampur, Koraput and Kalahandi and 28 Assembly constituencies on May 13.
While yellow warning has been issued till May 12, light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at a few places in districts of South Odisha and at one or two places in North Odisha.
On Tuesday, 20 cities recorded temperature below 35 degree Celsius amid heavy rainfall, thunderstorm activity and gusty wind. Balangir and Titilagarh saw a dip in maximum day temperature by 10°C, while mercury plummeted in many parts of interior Odisha by 8 to 9°C. The temperature dropped by 7.3°C in Bhubaneswar and by 4.2°C in Cuttack, according to the MeT office.
The state had witnessed a prolonged phase of heatwave in April.
