Bhubaneswar: While the day temperature in most parts of Odisha has gone up appreciably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued nor’wester (Kala Baisakhi) alert for western Odisha districts for three days, beginning Friday afternoon.
In a morning release on Friday, the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said that a trough line at 0.9 km above the mean sea level runs from a cyclonic circulation over east Rajasthan and adjoining north-west Madhya Pradesh to north interior Karnataka across Madhya Pradesh and Marathwada.
Under its influence, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur and thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir and Nuapada from the afternoon hours till late evening on February 16.
Besides, Jgatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jajpur and Bhadrak are likely to witness dense fog during this period, the release pointed out.
Apart from this, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at a few places in North Odisha, thunderstorm accompanied with hail and lightning at one or two places in Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj and thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in the remaining districts of north Odisha and Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Boudh districts of South Odisha in the subsequent 24 hours on February 17.
