New Delhi: Noted economist Abhijit Sen passed away on Monday night at the age of 72.
A member of Planning Commission from 20024-2014, member, Sen was one of India’s top experts on rural economy.
“He suffered a heart attack around 11 pm. We rushed him to the hospital, but it was all over by the time we got there,” said his brother Dr Pronab Sen.
Sen taught economics at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University for four decades, and held several important government positions including Commission of Agricultural Cost and Prices chairmanship.
