Bhubaneswar: Noted educationist and mathematician Ram Shankar Rath passed away in Bhubaneswar following a prolonged illness. He was 92.
Rath, who was undergoing treatment for pneumonia and related ailments, breathed his last at his residence in Acharya Vihar on Sunday, family sources said.
He is survived by wife, son, daughters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. His last rites were performed at Satya Nagar crematorium.
Known for his academic excellence, Dr Rath had started his service career as a lecturer in Dibrugarh before moving to Paralakhemundi and then Gangadhar Meher college in Sambalpur.
He joined in Utkal University Mathematics PG department in 1969. Later he became the Founder Director of Correspondence Courses in 1975 and continued till his retirement in 1993.
After completing school education from Khallikote, he studied Intermediate Science from MKCG college Paralakhemundi and graduated in Physics Hons from Ravenshaw and continued there to complete PG in Mathematics. He obtained his PhD in Mathematics (Fluid Dynamics) from IIT, Delhi in 1968. He had written many books on various topics of mathematics, science, literature, spiritual enlightenment and social science.
