Noted Medicine Specialist Rajkishore Das Passes Away At Cuttack’s Residence

Cuttack: Noted medicine specialist Rajkishore Das passed away at his Tulasipur residence in Odisha’s Cuttack on Monday. He was 88.

According to sources, Das was suffering from kidney-related ailment and pneumonia.

Born in 1935 at Mangalpur in Salepur, Das did his schooling from Collegiate School in Cuttack and pursued Intermediate in Science from erstwhile Ravenshaw College. In an interview, he had said that he decided to study medicines after his mother died due to health complications when he was Class VIII. Her last wish was to see him as a doctor. Since he scored well in mathematics, his father wanted him to study in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). He, however, dropped mathematics in ISC and concentrated on becoming a doctor.

His first posting was at SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Cuttack as blood officer in 1962. After around 8-10 months, he joined the erstwhile VSS Medical College and Hospital as a lecturer in medicine. Das then returned to Cuttack to pursue MD in Medicine. Thereafter, he continued at SCBMCH. He was the head of the department from 1990-1991, when he took voluntary retirement due to personal problems.
