Bhubaneswar: Noted writer Sricharan Mohanty, known for his contributions to children’s literature, passed away in Bhubaneswar following a prolonged illness. He was 73.
Mohanty, who had been undergoing treatment for memory loss for the past few years, breathed his last on Wednesday night, family sources said.
Apart from children’s literature, he also made significant contributions to Odia essays, and poetry.
After completing his post-graduate studies from the Odia Department of Santiniketan, he obtained his PhD and D.Litt degrees from there. He worked as a lecturer at a government college in Rourkela for many years, Sahitya Charcha reported.
Mohanty was honoured with the Odisha Sahitya Academy award for children’s literature in 2013. ‘Aame Sabu Saragara Phulre’ and ‘Katha Kahu Katha’ are among the well-known children’s literature written by him. Apart from this, he edited the works of Mayadhar Manasingh in eight parts. He also played a major role in the composition and editing of publications of Pragati Utkal Sangh in Rourkela.
