Bhubaneswar: Taking a swipe at Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s remarks on double engine and good governance, Congress on Sunday said claims about both the concepts have turned out to be false and misleading.
Senior Congress leader and MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati reacted sharply to Naveen’s remarks made by Naveen after the victory of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Jharsuguda Assembly by-election.
Addressing BJD leaders and workers in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, the BJD supremo had rebuffed Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) double engine campaign and said it is good governance which matters in Odisha.
Bahinipati claimed that wherever double eigine government was experimented the result was disastrous as both the engines were found to have failed miserably.
Coming down heavily on Naveen over his claims about good governance, the senior Congress leader said though governance appears to exist in Odisha, there is nothing good about it as the state has been experiencing misrule.
Stating that Ministers, MLAs and elected representatives are denied any say in governance, he claimed that the government officials are managing the show at every level, starting from blocks to the districts.
Both BJD and BJP will be wiped out in Odisha if Congress stages a come back, Bahinipati said, claiming that many BJD leaders are disenchanted over the state of affairs in the ruling party. There are at least ten aspirants for candidature in BJD in every Assembly constituency, he claimed.
Many leaders of BJD are also keen to join Congress as they are unhappy in the regional party, he claimed.
On BJD’s decision to keep away from the proposed third front, the senior Congress leader claimed that Naveen had taken this decision so that the central probe agencies such as the CBI, ED and IT do not become active in Odisha. He knows that if he joins the third front, CBI and the ED will start raiding BJD leaders, Bahinipati claimed.
