Cuttack: A notorious criminal was injured and arrested following a police encounter near Malgodown area of Cuttack late on Monday night.
Manoj Swain alias Munu (28) sustained bullet injuries in the encounter. He has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Following a tip-off, Malgodown police conducted raids near the Mahanadi river in Jobra. On spotting policemen in the area, Manoj hurled two bombs at them, injuring inspector-in-charge Rabi Narayan Bhanja, sub-inspector Sunil Yadav and havildar Gulam Mohammad. The police then opened fire at Manoj, injuring him.
He was arrested and three live bombs were seized from him.
Sources said Manoj was allegedly involved in slitting the throat of sugar mill owner Damodar Bhawsinka of Malgodown on March 16.
