Kendrapara: A notorious criminal was injured in an encounter with police at Deshapur under Derabish police limits in Kendrapara district on Sunday morning.
The criminal has been identified as Santosh Mallick (36).
Acting on a tip-off that Mallick was plotting a dacoity at Deshapur, a police team raided the place to nab him. Sensing trouble, Mallick opened fire on the cops in an attempt to escape arrest. The raiding team retaliated in which the criminal sustained bullet injury on his right leg and fell down.
Mallick was admitted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.
A motorcycle and a pistol were recovered from his possession.
According to police sources, the criminal was involved in more than 60 cases, including murder and dacoity.
