Berhampur: A notorious criminal was nabbed following an exchange of fire with police at Jagannath Prasad in Ganjam district on Wednesday.
The criminal has been identified as Shatrughna alias Bapi Swain, who was wanted by Ganjam police in at least 11 cases like murder, attempt to murder and extortion.
Police received a tip-off regarding Bapi’s presence in Jagannath Prasad of the district. Accordingly, a special team of Ganjam police raided the area. On seeing the cops, the criminal opened fire at them. Police retaliated and Bapi received bullet injuries in both the legs, police sources said, adding that the criminal has been admitted to Bhanjanagar hospital for treatment. A pistol, two live cartridges and one live bomb have been recovered from his possession.
