Notorious criminal injured in police encounter at Cuttack

Cuttack: Notorious criminal Kalandi Khuntia was injured in an encounter with police near Khan Nagar river bridge here on Monday.

He was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

A police team raided Khan Nagar following a tip-off regarding the criminal’s presence in the area. On spotting the cops, Kalandi opened fire on them. The cops retaliated and a bullet struck him in his right leg.

Inspector-in-charge of Badambadi police station was also injured in the exchange of fire.

Kalandi, a resident of Shankarpur in Cuttack, was allegedly involved in a number of criminal cases including the recent bomb blast at Badambadi.

On September 5, another criminal identified as Sheikh Rahul was injured in a similar encounter with Puri ghat police in Cuttack.
