Notorious Criminal Injured In Police Encounter

Berhampur: A notorious criminal was injured in an encounter with police at Rambha area in Ganjam district on Friday morning.
The criminal has been identified as Santosh Behera.
A pistol, two bullets and a motorcycle were seized from his possession.
The encounter took place at around 4 am when police raided the area after being receiving a tip-off regarding Behera’s presence in the area along with his associate. Sensing trouble, Behera opened fire at the cops. Following which the policemen too retaliated back in which the criminal got injured. However, his associate somehow managed to flee the spot during the raid.
Behera was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after sustaining bullet injuries on his legs.
There are more than 16 criminal cases including dacoity, attempt to murder and robbery pending against him at different police stations, police sources said.
