Rourkela: A notorious inter-state criminal of Jharkhand was critically injured in an encounter with police in Bisra area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
Sources said the wanted criminal, identified as Bias Lakhua (26), was involved in many cases of extortion, murder, theft, and dacoity. Police had been on his trail for a long time.
The exchange of fire took place near Akhayasila waterfall under the jurisdiction of Bisra police station in the wee hours of Wednesday when the criminal was planning a robbery.
Following a tip-off, a police team chased Lakhua to nab him. The criminal opened fire at the police team and in the return fire he was grievously injured. He has been admitted to the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) for treatment.
Police said Lakhua used to commit crimes in Odisha and then flee to Jharkhand in order to evade arrest by police.
