Now Air Travel To Cost More In India; Know New Fares

New Delhi: Domestic flying is going to be costlier for travellers with the Civil Aviation Ministry raising the lower limits on airfares by 13% to 16% on Saturday. However, the upper limits have remained unchanged.

The increase in fares will come into effect from 1 June, according to an official order.

The move comes to relieve the burden on airlines that have seen significant drop in domestic passenger count in view of the devastating second wave of COVID-19.

According to the order, the new fare structures will be:

Flight duration          Existing lower limit (Rs)       New lower limit (Rs)

Under 40 mins            2300                                        2600

40-60 mins                  2900                                        3300

60-90 mins                  3,500                                       4,000

90-120 mins                4,100                                       4,700

120-150 mins              5,300                                       6.100

150-180 mins              6,400                                       7,400

180-210 mins              7,600                                       8,700

Notably, the Centre had imposed lower and upper limits on airfares based on flight duration when services were resumed on May 25, 2020 after a two-month lockdown.
