London: The world is still coming to grips with the dastardly attack on Salman Rushdie. And now comes the news that another best-selling author JK Rowling — of Harry Potter fame – faced death threats on Twitter after she reacted to the attack on Rushdie in New York.
The 57-year-old Rowling took to Twitter to express her shock over Rushdie’s attack.
“Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok.”
One Meer Asif Aziz commented on Rowling’s post: “Don’t worry you are next”.
The user also praised Rushdie’s attacker, posting: “The name of this man is hadi matar. He is a revolutionary Shia fighter followed the fatwa of late ayatollah rohullah khomenei”.
Rowling shared screenshots of the user’s replies and tagged Twitter Support’s account, asking if there is “any chance of some support”.
Thanking her followers, Rowling updated them that police were investigating the issue.
“To all sending supportive messages: thank you. Police are involved (were already involved on other threats),” she wrote.
She also shared a screenshot of Twitter’s feedback — “no violations of the Twitter rules” – after she reported the user.
