Jaipur: The hijab controversy, which originated in Karnataka, is spreading in different parts of the country.

Pro-hijab protests and agitations were reported from a number of states including Rajasthan, where Muslim girls of a private college in Jaipur district were asked to attend classes in uniform, instead of wearing a hijab.

Family members of some Muslim students registered their protest against the college administration, reported Outlook.

According to sub-inspector Jitendra Singh, five-six girls had gone to the college wearing hijab.

“The college administration asked them to come to college wearing uniform. The girls informed their family members about it, following which they reached the college and raised an objection,” the cop said.

A team of police personnel then went to the college and pacified students’ parents.

About 500 students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) also took out a protest march on the campus to show solidarity with Muslim girl students denied entry to schools and colleges.

This despite the university administration denying students permission for the protest.

With the issue taking a political colour, there were protests on the streets of Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad too.
