The new Mobile Number Portability (MNP) rules have been implemented starting Monday. Now the process will take just 2 days instead of a week as was the case earlier.
A unique porting code (UPC) will be generated for users who request for MNP. Postpaid users will have to clear their outstanding dues and availed the service for at least 90 days.
How to port your mobile number
Users need to send a text message ‘PORT (space) mobile number’ to 1900. Once validated the UPC code is sent within 5 minutes, and this is valid for 4 days in all telecom circles except Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and North East where the code will be valid for 30 days.
Users will have to submit the UPC along with address and identity proof.
