Puri: Prof. Achyuta Samanta, founder of KISS and KIIT, was conferred honorary doctorate degree by Shree Jagannath Sanskrit University, Puri, on its 9th convocation ceremony on Friday.
Prof. Samanta was decorated with D.Lit ‘Prajnana-Vachaspati’ by Odisha Governor and Chancellor of the University Prof. Ganeshi Lal for his outstanding contribution in the fields of education and social service.
It was the 53rd such distinction for Prof. Samanta.
As for Shree Jagannath Sanskrit University, this was the first honorary doctorate award.
Eminent litterateur and educationist Pratibha Ray, who delivered the Convocation address, said that every university should award Prof. Samanta an honorary doctorate for the work that he is doing.
Dr Samanta expressed his gratitude to the University authorities, University Syndicate members and Education Council for selecting him for this honour.
He said it was a privilege that he started his educational journey in Puri and got an honorary doctorate from this place, adding that it will motivate him to do more for the society.
Among others present at Convocation ceremony were University Chancellor Prof. Rabindra Panda and Registrar Sumitra Pattanaik.
