Bhubaneswar: Now, you can sponsor Aahar meals on a specific day to feed people on your birthday, marriage anniversary or in memory of your loved ones. The donations can be made through Aahar website (www.urbanodisha.gov.in/aadhar) launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who also inaugurated 38 new centres, providing subsidized meal under the scheme, on Monday.
“The sponsor can choose any Aahar outlet of his/her choice for the philanthropic activity,” an official said.
Inaugurating the new centres through video conferencing at State Secretariat here, the Chief Minister said serving quality food in clean and hygiene environment is the hallmark of this scheme. Over one lakh people are being benefited from the scheme daily, he added..
With the new facilities, the total number of Aahar centres has gone up to 157 in 114 urban pockets. Of them, 57 such centres are running on hospital campuses.
The scheme, which was launched on April 1, 2015, is a subsidised food programme of the state government. The actual cost of the Dalma-rice meal is around Rs 20, while people pay only Rs 5 for it. The state government extends Rs 15 as subsidy per plate.
Initially, the service was only available during the day from 11 am to 3 pm but was later was made available during night at centre located on hospital campuses.
