Bhubaneswar: Police personnel of sub-inspector (SI) rank will now head the outposts across the state.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a proposal of the Odisha Police to appoint sub-inspectors in 216 outposts under it. Till now, assistant sub-inspectors were in charge of the outposts.
As per the proposal, all the police outposts under Commissionerate Police, district police and railway police will be headed by a sub-inspector, according to a release of chief minister’s office.
The proposal was mooted considering the fact that since the sub-inspectors are trained and efficient in investigation of criminal cases, they would be able to bring down the crime rate at ground level.
