Chennai: There is still no certainty on when a COVID-19 vaccine will be available, but political parties in India have already started promising ‘free’ distribution.
Hours after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared in its Bihar elections manifesto that the vaccine, once approved by ICMR, will be given free to every people in the state if they vote the party to power, the Tamil Nadu government followed suit on Thursday.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday assured that the people of the state will be provided with free Covid-19 vaccine, once its developed.
“Once the COVID vaccine is developed, it will be supplied free of cost for the people of Tamil Nadu,” Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said.
Many are seeing it as a political sop, ahead of Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu which are due in May 2021.
