Kolkata: The battle between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to capture power in West Bengal is intensifying with every passing day.
Abhishek Banerjee, a TMC MP and nephew of chief minister Mamata Banerjee, on Sunday took to Twitter to claim that the BJP insulted the country by singing the wrong National Anthem at Sunday’s Dumurjala rally.
“Those preaching about Patriotism & Nationalism can’t even sing our National Anthem correctly. This is the party which claims to uphold India’s honour and pride! SHAMEFUL! Will @narendramodi @AmitShah @BJP4India apologise for this ‘Anti-National’ Act? #BJPInsultsNationalAnthem,” Abhishek posted.
Rubbishing Abhishek’s contention, BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya said that the leaders and ministers of BJP cannot make such mistakes.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who cancelled his two-day West Bengal trip in the wake of an explosion outside the Israeli embassy in Delhi on Friday, addressed the Dumurjala rally virtually, after Central minister Smriti Irani – who was in attendance – made her speech.
Shah said on Sunday that Mamata is only worried about making her nephew the next chief minister of West Bengal.
Amidst chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ at the rally site, Shah said that if voted to power BJP, at its first cabinet meeting, will implement Prime Minister’s health scheme ‘Ayushman Bharat’ which gives more benefits compared to Mamata’s scheme ‘Swasthya Sathi’.
“People of West Bengal are seeking a change as anti-TMC slogans are now heard everywhere in the state due to poor governance of the Trinamool Congress. Only BJP can bring in proper change,” the Union Home Minister said.
Slamming Mamata for not supporting farmers in the state, Shah claimed that the chief minister has submitted only the names of famers for implementing Centre’s Kisan Samman Niddhi and not bank details of the farmers.
Countering Shah, TMC minister Chandrima Bhattacharya stated that the BJP is extremely worried seeing the popularity of the work being done by the TMC government.
All those who have joined BJP from TMC recently were present at the rally.
