Puri: The National Security Guard (NSG) on Wednesday carried out a reconnaissance exercise at Jagannath Temple as part of the security exercise at the heritage site.
A three-member NSG team reached the temple and inspected the pilgrim site.
The authorities of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) guided the commandos and informed them about construction of security corridor around the heritage site.
On March 10, the State Government was informed about the three-member NSG team visit. The team will also conduct a reconnaissance exercise at Sun Temple at Konark on Thursday.
The elite commando team reached the site and began the exercise. Besides making an on-the-spot survey of the security measures, they also took stock of special security-related map.
The exercise is part of the elite commando unit’s security inspection at major pilgrimages and other sensitive places across the country with an aim to pre-empt any possible sabotage attempt by terrorists.
The NSG had earlier conducted such security inspections in September 2018 and July 2017.
