NSUI Suspends Odisha Chief Udit Pradhan After Arrest On Rape Charge; OPCC Forms Probe Panel

Bhubaneswar: National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of Congress, suspended its Odisha unit president Udit Pradhan following his arrest over rape allegation.

NSUI issued a public statement saying that Udit Narayan Pradhan has been suspended with immediate effect.

NSUI maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards gender-based injustice and is unwavering in its commitment to accountability and justice, NSUI President Varun Choudhary said in the statement.

He asserted that the organisation’s fight for justice for Balasore FM College victim will continue.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) formed a six-member committee headed by Sasmita Behera to investigate the matter and submit a report to the OPCC.

It may be noted that Udit was arrested by Mancheswar police in Bhubaneswar for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman after spiking her drink at a hotel in the city.

The arrest was made following a complaint filed by the young woman, an engineering student. The alleged incident took place on March 18 this year.
