Bhubaneswar: A 22-year-old nurse was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the bathroom of a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Friday
The deceased has been identified as Sonali Rout, a native of Ganjam district.
According to sources, Rout was on duty at the hospital at the time of the incident. Noticing her absence, staff members checked the premises and found her lying unresponsive inside the staff bathroom. A syringe and a letter were found near her, hinting at a possible suicide angle in the death. She was declared dead shortly thereafter.
On being informed, police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. Authorities said a post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain any foul play.
Meanwhile, her family members asserted she was in good health and showed no signs of distress. “We were informed about her death at 3.30 pm, two hours after she was found unconscious. Initially, we were told that she slipped in the bathroom and became unconscious but later they claimed that a syringe and a letter was found near the body and it was a case of suicide,” Sonali’s brother told the media.
He added that the handwriting in the letter matched that with his sister’s.
Her aunt said that Sonali had mentioned working five consecutive night shifts without a break but emphasised she had no known health problems.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning hospital staff to explore all possibilities in the case.
